Pumpkins are the epitome of the ‘ber months: lining doorsteps in their shades of orange, green, white, and yellow; their speckles and textures and peduncles. These winter squash carry so much nostalgia in their seed-filled spheres, like magic globes giving us glimpses of a rose-tinted past, and seeing them pop up along streets, in window sills, and in viney patches transport me right back to my first memories of autumn. I hope it takes you back to the days spent bobbing up and down on hayrides, carving pumpkins atop makeshift newspaper tablecloths, and cozy evenings with nothing to worry about other than which Halloween special was playing on which channel.
This botanical illustration is a part of the ever growing harvest collection — a handful of fine art prints I created with the intention of cultivating a space that encourages stillness, slow growth, self-compassion, and hope. Like each illustration in the collection, these pumpkins serve as a reminder to have grace with yourself as you plant your own seeds, grow your roots, and reap your well-earned harvests. The most bountiful gardens grow from the small of seeds — so during sproutless seasons, keep patiently tending to the unseen undergrounds: a time to harvest will come precisely when it’s meant to.
