As one of the first harvest of the year to ripen from late march into early april, rhubarb commemorates the first hopeful signs of spring. Its tart pink “petioles” are enjoyed in nostalgic homemade jams and warm pies, and while their large green leaves are not edible, they are one of the early signs of an abundant garden, and some even flower: a sure sign of a warmer front.
I hope that this black and white illustration of the harvest inspires you in its fearlessness in being one of the first crops of the year to break the frost: a breath that you can see in the cold air as it whispers “be brave.”

This print is packaged with sustainability at the forefront, and I am always looking for more eco-friendly options! For protection, my artwork is sealed in an eco-friendly slip that has a similar appearance and feel to plastic, but is actually made from plant-based PLA and is compostable (it is not home compostable, however, it is the best I can currently find).
To ensure your artwork stays safe as it makes its way from you to me, it also rests against a white backing board made from 100% recycled fiber, 90% post-consumer waste materials, and is pH neutral. Aside from providing the print with additional support, it is also great for framing your artwork!
Tucked inside your package will be a few little notes made from 100% wildflower seed paper so you can start a small garden of your own. Plant them in ⅛ inch of soil, water thoroughly, and place in a sunny spot to grow a colourful bundle of wildflowers.
